Daybreakers

Fans of zombie flicks and vampire flicks rejoice – Daybreakers brings together these two elements to give us an entertaining film filled with the usual good stuff like naked gory human-turned-creatures with serious varicose vein issues, solar-phobia, exploding heads, dimwit military men and hawt heroine with her headlights visible under her military tank top. Yummy. The gist of the film goes – in 2019, 10 years after the vampire epidemic, the vampire race is facing a crisis of the human blood shortage. While scientists work hard at developing a blood substitute to keep vampires from turning into insane creatures with wings, one hot scientist discovers the cure to the vampire condition through a group of humans. And there’s fighting, yadda yadda, people dying, attacks, sunburnts, yadda. Brilliant.

On a serious note, this film is a lot about Power and (un)Change. Those who hold power will always want to maintain status quo, especially if Change meant a shift in power differential. Bleak but true. Change, we can’t. Solve problems, maybe.

So, this movie is worth watching. If not for the hawt heroine, then the hawt hero played by Ethan Hawke. Gee he’s my favourite tortured hero since Gattaca, and here he goes again strutting his chiselled face and piercing eyes. Man. He’s hawt both as a vampire and a human. A far better looking vampire than Pitt and Cruise, definitely.

Here, have a peek:

Cute, ya? Not my type, but still cute. I dig light-coloured eyes.

  1. hmm you got me wanting to watch now. interesting twist about vampires finding cure in human instead of seeing them as food source!

i like ethan hawke since i saw him in my favourite movie 'before sunrise'. recently watched 'before sunset' and that was nice too.

    • Oh, they feed on human. In fact they farm humans for blood in a … mildly civilised manner in the sense of organized killing rather than tearing through the streets and randomly attacking humans.
