I shuddered a little at the soulessness of this entire movie. No wait, someone has a soul. The Red Que
en. She was the only human-like charcter in the movie. The others were played in a subpar manner by A-list actors – which confuses me. In the words of Alice, “curiouser and curiouser”. Why do they underact, or was it overact? If they are acting at all?
The Red Queen is my favourite character in the movie – together with her evilness, naivety and big head. Helena seems to have outdone herself again, as usual. I’d go in as far to say she’s the female equivalent of Depp. Well, the Depp we know prior to Alice, that is. The Mad Hatter played by Depp is so lacklustre, so restrained and boring in this movie. Not nearly as mad as he is boring. His role can be easily replaced with a chicken if not for canon text. What is Depp doing? Trying to be morose as a Mad Hatter? Seriously?
Oh, and I like the blue caterpillar as well. The voice actor was good for the hookah-smoking caterpillar. Oh, the voice was Alan Rickman by the way. That drawl one can recognize anywhere. Which reminds me – Stephen Fry doesn’t sound like Stephen Fry as the Cheshire Cat. Not at all. I tried hard to listen, to catch that little hint he’s Stephen Fry, but I couldn’t find it. Artistry? Or his voice kenna distorted?
Let’s not talk about the bad excuse of acting for Alice and The White Queen. Both made me balk, both are so two-dimensional I think Garfield has more depth.
I feel it’s $11 (3D price) wasted. There is no absolute need to watch this movie in 3D. In fact there is no absolute need to watch this movie at all. It’s one of those big budget film that is hoo-haa and nothing else. Some parts are funny and all, but I think your money can be better spent.
