The funny thing is, I’ve been to Cafe Iguana a couple of times but never ate the food there. I usually head over for Happy Hour frozen margaritas, so there.
Since we were bored with run-of-the-mill food places (think Thai Express and Ministry of Food), we decided to head over to Cafe Iguana for Mexican food.
Frozen strawberry margarita, jug #1. (There’s another jug of mango margarita but it was too dark to take pictures by then)
It’s happy hour, of course we had to chug margaritas at 40% off. That’s possibly the whole point of Cafe Iguana’s existence, really.
Grilled chicken chimichanga, $19.99
This is essentially a burrito with deep-fried skin and topped with guacamole and sour cream. I stole some of KL’s guacamole, and it tasted like it’s made of avocado and nothing else. Strangely, it was very different from the guacamole I had at Chili’s. I suppose Cafe Iguana’s guacamole is more authentic since they are, after all, a Mexican restaurant.
My shredded steak burrito, $20.99
The presentation is subpar, I’m sorry. Compared to the chimichanga, come on, we don’t even have to begin to decide which looks more appetising.
Interior shot.
However, the burrito tasted fab. Shredded beef layered with beans and rice and cheese wrapped up nicely in the toasted burrito wrap – yummy.
Yet there’s a problem. Among the 6 of us, 2 ordered the same chicken chimichanga and the rest of us had burrito in different fillings – vegetables, chicken, beef. To me, this is a marker of low variety. A Mexican restaurant which no enchilada? Spare me. Yet if we view Cafe Iguana as a pub, then they have fantastic menu. What I’m saying is, if your group has too many non-drinkers, this might not be a place you want to consider, unless you really really need to have some Mexican food and can’t think of any other place.
Visit the official website here – http://www.cafeiguana.com. Reservations recommended for weekends especially for large groups unless you want to arrive before 6.30pm.
