How to make cute things

Lo and behold(1), I have discovered the golden rule to making cute things. Not about skills or talent, it’s all about … PASTEL FELT + FACE Really. The idea is to put a face on felt in pastel colours and you get this incredibly cute whatever. Don’t believe me? Case in point: See? 2 eyes [...]

EL CNY board

So I doodled on our whiteboard today: Featuring (from left to right, top to bottom): A CNY couplet written by me, a red packet, two oranges, two pineapples, firecrackers, two fat kids (chicken legs contributed by Angela), a … clown(?) who looks like a hybrid of Michael Jackson and the mask from Saw, a man [...]

Museum of Broken Relationships

Yesterday some classmates and I went down to the Esplanade to catch the Museum of Broken Relationship, an exhibit at the window (Jendela) gallery. It’s an art thingamajig from Croatia that displays artefacts from broken relationships. Most of the pieces are collected all over the word (primarily from Croatia and neighbouring states) and some pieces [...]

Book Thongs

I crocheted a couple of book thongs for the girls I met for dinner tonight. (More on the dinner when I get the pictures from KL) From the left: a chocolate cake with caramel ganache, a strawberry ice-cream cone, a cup of coffee, a white cake with pink icing, and a red flower. I designed [...]

Christmas toys

I made a couple of amigurumi toys to give away as Christmas presents. Mr. Kancheong Penguin, a.k.a. KP (heh) for Xping. The penguin looks kancheong (i.e. flustered), doesn’t he? On the left, Mr. Lionel Version 2 and on the right, Mr. Octopus. Mr. Lionel v2.0 goes to Angela. Mr. Lionel is sort of a custom [...]

My first amigurumi

I actually finished this amigurumi a couple of days before I left for Shanghai, while I was crocheting the hat. I got the pattern from KatCrochet. The pattern is Aiko the Amigurumi Bunny, but obviously it turned out so different! I got carried away while crocheting, and I forgot how the final product is supposed [...]

Crochet Hat

So I crocheted a hat to bring to Shanghai. Here are some pictures of it: Front view. Side view. Not the best handiwork around, but I think it’s plenty cute. The earflaps are cute, aren’t they? This hat really reminds me of Russian hats, minus the fur lining, haha. Actually it’s a cross between a [...]

I made a bag

I made a bag over the weekend (read: procrastination) I followed the tutorial by Tiny Happy. Quite easy to make, except for the wonky sewing machine. (or maybe it’s my bad skills; haven’t handled a sewing machine since 2000 thereabout) I bought the cloth at Joo Chiat Complex; the flowery one goes for $2.80 per [...]

Book Earrings

I made this pair of earrings for Sulz and I think it’s really nifty. Since I make trinkets and bind books, why not bring together these 2 crafts and create things befitting a bookworm? The books are real; they are hardbound with blank pages (prolly good for taking down phone numbers or something). I like [...]

The Fan Dance

Instead of studying for my lexicology paper, I decided to make a pair of earrings: It’s a pity that both sides are slightly different in length. Other than that, I really like that Oriental feel about it. And if you’re wondering, they are for sale. (How unabashed am I!)
