Reading 2010

I have started the new page for Reading 2010. I have also signed up for two reading challenges for 2010 tentatively. There will be more to come when we get nearer the new year. These 2 challenges are the What’s In a Name? challenge and the World Religion Challenge.

I have taken part in What’s In a Name? since 2008. This year it is hosted by Beth of Beth Fish Reads. I didn’t complete it in 2008 and this year, I am one book short, and that’s not a big issue; I have the book in possession, it’s a matter of reading it before the year is up. So I’d say I am completing it this year. I think it’s a manageable challenge; 6 books from 6 categories. For 2010, the six categories are food, body of water, title (e.g. queen, president), plant, place name and music term. Interestingly, the plant category was the one I didn’t complete in 2008. I’m not complaining about a repeat, on the contrary, this allows me to finally read that book I was supposed to read. I have not yet come up with my book list, I will be updating that pretty soon.

The other challenge, World Religion Challenge, is something new. There are various paths to be taken – I have chosen the Universalist path where I attempt to read something from and about a large number of religions such as and not limited to Buddhism, Scientology and Greek mythology. This challenge will ideally widen my horizon to religion, which I fundamentally regards as a social phenomenon ONLY. Perhaps through reading more about a large number of religions I can be less dismissive to them. I haven’t compiled a reading list either, but that will be built ad-hoc, I suppose.

So these are two reading challenges I have signed up for, and I will be signing up for more as I scour the net for more challenges that intrigue me.

Welcome to the World Religion Challenge! I can’t wait to see your thoughts on the books you read and if you do indeed, have any changes in opinion (or perhaps are more steadfast in your current position).

      Thank you for the link!
I’m particularly excited about the World Religion challenge too; it’s going to push me into reading different kinds of books both fiction and non-fiction.
