The HandBurger

I went to The HandBurger at 313@Somerset after hearing good words from some friends. The HandBurger is not a fast food joint, but a sit-down burger place. The prices range from $7.80 for the cheapest burger to $11.80. They stress on quality and artisan handmade food with a great variety to suit every palate.

Duck Confit Burger, $11.80

My friend Angela had the Duck Confit Burger, made out of boneless duck thigh. It is served with orange dressing. Different burgers are served with different buns; the Duck Confit Burger was served on toasted caramelised bun. I have to admit that putting duck into burgers is something new. It’s a French meets American dish.

Stuffed Portobello Burger, $8.80

I had the Stuffed Portobello Burger, made out of a whole portobello mushroom stuffed with a mixture of spinach, walnuts, parmesan cheese and and beancurd served on a toasted spinach with parmesan cheese bun, which tastes of herbs in fact. The mushroom is succulent and juicy, and the stuffing is suitably creamy yet light. Here is a close up of the stuffing:

Stuffing

There is quite a bit of spinach, and the beancurd and cheese helps to gel the mixture together. I highly recommend this burger even if you’re not a vegetarian! (But I can’t help if you are strictly carnivorous.)

Besides the burgers, we also had the option of adding on $4 or $6 for sides and drinks. $4 can add on handcut fries, onion rings, a simple soup or a stuffed tomato, which I had, and a drink. $6 can buy you better soups, calamari among other sides, and also a drink.

Stuffed tomato

The tomato is skinned, stuffed and chilled with mayo-less coleslaw.

Such a side dish really screams artisan. Even though it’s just a chilled tomato cored and stuffed with coleslaw, there is something about the sincerity in providing good wholesome food at this joint that will make me go back again. Of course, those in the mood for fries can still have their fix.

For more information, visit their official website here. Also visit the outlets for information on their lunch sets which costs $8.80 (I think) for certain burgers, sides and drinks.
